Who is PEN & INK?

From the blog's About Us page:

Four writers.
Four perspectives.
Four members of SCBWI.

The four writers of PEN & INK are Susan Berger, Lupe Fernandez, Hilde Garcia and Kris Kars. Recently Catherine Lee also came on board. They all have SCBWI (The Society of Children's Books Writers & Illustrators) in common and theirs is a popular blog among other members, particularly those in the Los Angeles area.

What do they blog about? A little bit of everything. Many of their posts discuss issues relating to the writing of children's literature including process, the industry, author interviews, reviews and so forth. It's a great place for an inside look at the children's book world and for getting acquainted with SCBWI.

PEN & INK is not considered a review blog, so they do not accept books for review.

  1. You are spotlighting us? How cool. Did you mean to add a link to us? Thank you!

    1. Ooops! This was not supposed to post yet. Sorry. :)

  2. "PEN & INK is not considered a review blog, so they do not accept books for review."
So true, but we like freebies.

  3. Do you guys recommend joining the SCBWI? I'm new to the game, but I have a literary agent, and my first book is for middle schoolers.

    1. Hi David,

The short answer is YES. SCBWI is the first and best and biggest organization for children's book writers and illustrators. It offers invaluable support and education on our craft. Their annual summer conference is coming up in Los Angeles in August. I don't know where you're located, but the conference is a great way to dive right in. It is expensive, but very worth it. But there are also many other ways to get involved, too. Visit their website to get more info. Also go to the regions tab to find your local chapter of SCBWI. Get connected.
